Marcel Dzama: The Infidels

Marcel Dzama: The Infidels
Sies & Hoke, 2009

This was supposed to be my last post for a couple of weeks, as I am supposed to be flying to Europe tomorrow for my holidays. Unfortunately that Effecjdskjhdjsfhdjdhdfjds volcano in Iceland has gone off again and now I may not be able to get to where I need to go. Uguuugugugugugug. It wouldn't matter so much, but one of my close friends is getting married in Italy on Thursday and I would hate to miss it. This is decidedly not the most relaxing way to start a holiday. I'm trying to channel zen-ness and trying to accept it's all out of my hands.

I might see you in a couple of weeks! I might see you in a couple of days! Who knows!

Past Imperfect.

Deborah Turbeville: Past Imperfect
Steidl, 2010

My obsession with the photography of Deborah Turbeville is no secret here. I think this is at least my third post about her, and that's because I've been exercising restraint. I could post about her ALL day long (but that might get a little boring for the rest of you). This book just came out and it's wondrously dark and brooding. I love the image above - it's from a dummy shop in NYC, 1974. They look limbless but alive and as though they might jump up at any moment, chase me and tickle me to death. I hate being tickled.

You Have Been Here Some Time.

Oh My Goodness!

YHBHST - an amazing design blog - did an interview with me and put up some pictures of my flower window! Check it out HERE. Thanks so much Mister YHBST!

p.s. just scroll down a bit.

Gardens in Perpetual Bloom.

Gardens in Perpetual Bloom: Botanical Illustration in Europe and America 1600-1850
MFA Publications, 2010

Nothing beats a good botanical.
I've got a bit of a thing about botanicals at the moment.

Caravans.

I like a good caravan.
I'd like to drive away in any of these babies and get on down to the Cornish coast.
C'mon! What you all waiting for??

I don't stock this book - but it looks great and I'm going to buy myself a copy.

Vogue Paris Covers 1920-2009

Vogue Paris Covers 1920 - 2009
Thames & Hudson, 2010

It's no secret I love magazine covers. Old and new. I worry that with the dawn of the new media age, print magazines will become obsolete and disappear, taking with them the art of the cover. But then perhaps it will instead weed out the market and just make magazine editors raise their game. I think I may sound like an anachronistic dinosaur. If I was a dinosaur I would be a pterodactyl so I could fly and screech with impunity.

This book has so many great covers - these above are my favourites. The French really know how to do it.

And his name is Stephen.
My Dad's called Stephen.
We call him Step Hen.
It's not that funny but we think it's hilarious.
I don't drink coffee usually.

Floral Explosion.

I haven't been posting much of late, this is because I have been assembling and installing the latest window display. It's very colourful and Spring/Summer-like. I will post better pictures once I get them from Sharlene. I think I gave myself carpal tunnel making all the paper flowers.

Atelier Bow-Wow

Atelier Bow-Wow
Rizzoli, 2010

I don't often post the cover of the book I like, because the insides are normally more exciting. The innards of this book are infinitely exciting too but the cover is brill. It feels like hessian. I like hessian. I prefer typing it to burlap and it sounds like Ossian which is one of my favourite names. I think it's Welsh. I also like typing Bow-Wow.

Lisette Model.

Lisette Model
Jeu de Paume, 2010

I love pictures of old ladies.
The last image is my favourite - she looks like she's a hoot and up for a bit of mischief.
