While I'm Feeling Scandinavian...

After scanning in my Designs From Scandinavia - the Scandinavian madness continued when I unpacked some boxes and these were the offerings within. It must be my theme of the day, which when one considers my theme of the day tomorrow is jungle-theme, I suppose I should be very grateful for my Norse moment..

More Designs From Scandinavia.

Because - really - who can have enough?

Tomorrow I am going to a jungle-themed baby shower. I have never been to a baby shower before. We don't have them in the UK and I don't really have friends that have babies - we can handle being care-takers for ourselves and small animals but that's about the limit. I am feeling feelings that could be described as dread and fear but am trying to keep positive. I considered hiring a gorilla suit (jungle theme - hello?), which I could sit in and maybe smuggle in a G&T - but I was told that this could be considered rude and anti-social. Now, I never want to be considered rude, but anti-social is totally fine and kind of the point.

I acknowledge this has little to do with my Designs From Scandinavia.

I got in a stack of these vintage design catalogues on Scandiavian Design - I think the covers are gorgeous - especially when they're all together. I have been wanting to go to Scandinavia for a while, I would like to do a fjord-tour, a tour-of-the-fjords. It would be lovely to have lots of rain and water about, and to meet people called Per and Johan.

It seems like everybody is sickly here at the moment. All people have tickly coughs and ghostly pallors. It maybe due to some evil spawn being let loose in Southern California- like an episode of 24 - in which case hopefully Kiefer Sutherland and his preternaturally large ear lobes are racing around town trying desperately to save our skins...or there's a nasty strain of flu going around. I'm going to go with the former. I too, have a tickle in my throat and feel like my head is in a vice. I'm going to take some medicinal tonics and get back to scanning my Designs From Scandinavia.

"I don't shut up, I grow up, and when I look at you at throw up".

This has nothing to do with the book, I'd just never heard this before today and it made me laugh out loud. Sharlene Durfey busted it out. A mean and seedy man told me to shut up and this was what she told me to respond in my defense.

These images are from today's favourite book. It's a tiny book, only 5.5"wide by 7"tall - but it's full to bursting with sketches of urban scenes by Ingo Giezendanner. It's so fun to look at and doesn't have any blank space anywhere, every inch is covered in his effortless line drawings. There was a telly program at home about an autistic boy who drew buildings in mirror image. These kind of remind me of those.

Japan Style

Japan Style
$49.95

This book just came in to the store yesterday - it's been out for a few years. It's actually a really colourful book - it just so happens that my favourite images are black and white ones. The whole blog  is looking a bit black and white. I must be feeling monochromatic. The next book I want to write about is all black and white. Hmmm. Sharlene aged 6 is going to be my only splash of colour. Fairly fitting as she is a splash of colour on a regular basis.

The Japan Style book is printed on the most wonderful quality paper. It's thick and heavy. The lay-out of the book is pretty great too, the publishers aren't afraid of leaving space and blank pages which adds to the beauty and starkness of some of the images.

Just delicious.

Life Doesn't Get Better Than This.

On Reading.

On Reading by Andre Kertesz
$29.95

I like reading. I like watching people read. I like seeing people read books because it makes makes me think that hopefully in my lifetime that mad-looking contraption, the amazon Kindle, will not sweep the nation. I'm not sure how that thing works but then I worry that I'm like one of my parents who shall remain nameless, but who tries to turn on the tv with her mobile phone and doesn't understand cds. The Kindle looks like it would crush me if I was reading in bed and happened to nod off, dropping it on myself. And if I'm reading in the bath, the last thing I would be worrying about would be crinkly pages, more like death by electrocution. I wish the Kindle would go away, it hovers in my thoughts like some portent of greater doom. Death To Kindle I say.
