I watched Herb & Dorothy last week. If you haven't seen it - watch it! It's hilarious, fascinating and bananas. This couple from NYC, called, yep, Herb & Dorothy amassed the most important minimalist art collection in the US, maybe even the world. On a postal worker's salary. What?!

I have to confess that I find minimalist art hard to enjoy. It's a bit cerebral for me and I like a lot of bedaaaazzzlement, but listening to Herb & Dorothy talk about it makes it accessible even for a dullard like myself.

I just got this today which reminded me of H&D.

It's ridiculous because an onlooker can't see why you're frantic. It looks like you've lost your mind. Then I found the spider and yelped as it started to crawl upwards. It was the size of a small petal. I am a chicken.

What if I told you I'd discovered an exceedingly exciting, wildy talented new fashion illustrator? Kind of like a Garance-Dore-style. Look at the images below...

Aren't they gorge? The last one particularly - I WANT AND NEED that back-to-front robe-thing-of-heaven. What if I told you that the drawings are by Egon Schiele and he did them all between 1905ish and 1910ish? BANANAS right??? I mean, I know some clever clogs will have recognized his style and all, but golly gosh he's frighteningly contemporary. Imagine how shocking these were to peeps a hunny years ago. Shockers. I never get bored of looking at them. Ever.

I have a friend called Carol Le Flufy.
Carol Le Flufy is pretty awesome for many reasons.
Here are just a few:

1. CLF introduced me to the wonderful blog: mrs-o.org
MO's style is MAJOR (a CLF word-favourite). Her arms inspire green-eyed monsters in my eyeballs.

2. CLF took me to Soho House in West Hollywood a couple of weeks ago. It's a private member's club that I would otherwise never be allowed to step a foot in. The interior is like an old English drinking club: taxidermy, dark wooden paneling, insane upholstered furniture and cushy leather Chesterfields. There is a 360 degree view of the Hollywood Hills and the bartender made one of the best dirty martinis I have ever had. The only problem with it was that it was full of successful, creative British people. It made my accent totally commonplace. Balls.

3. CLF lends me books (unsolicited no less!). These 2 arrived at the weekend. I will be devouring them soon. (Portrait Of An Addict As A Young Man and Life Would Be Better If I lived In That House).

4. CLF has a cabin/house thing on Bowen Island near Vancouver. I google image it at work and pretend I am there.

5. Occasionally she emails me pictures of her cat Grace emailing.

I'm stocking up on good books to take on holiday next month - I ordered this one a while ago from my local-best-bookstore-in-the-universe, Skylight Books, and it arrived yesterday. Huzzahs. I know, I know - I could have ordered on it on amazon and saved money but I lUfF Skylight Books. I like this fella, David Mitchell. One of his other books, "Cloud Atlas" is in my top ten all-time-all-stars. I am much looking forward to reading it.

I am a bit perturbed that the Hollywood people have deemed it necessary to make "On The Road" into a film. This book is also in my top ten. I don't understand why it needs to be a film. Why can't they leave it be. It's supposed to be a book. Not a film. Am I behaving like an old grump? Poss.

I am on hiatus! I've never been on hiatus before! But now I am! I am on hiatus from doing the window displays at Lawson-Fenning. The bosses have decided to keep the window full of furniture and open and fresh for the summer months - which makes complete sense because we are trying to sell furniture afterall! It means I have more time on my hands while I'm here at work, so hopefully this will translate into more blogposts. Fingers crossed. Of course it could also translate into naval gazing but I will try to be on top of that.

This is the old port in Tel-Aviv - neglected for 50 years but then in 2003 the people-who-make-decisions-about-public-space decided to regenerate and hired Mayslits-Kassif Architects. What an outstanding job they did. In 2007 alone, 2.5 million people visited the port. The design is very "undulating" (excellent word) and is supposed to mirror the mythological dunes the port was originally built on. Love.

All the st-st-stunning photographs in this book are scenes from the Pacific Northwest and could be scenes from a Twilight film. I can not abide the Twilight books - for a few reasons - but mostly because whoever sub-edited them must have been on CRACK. But, I loves the films. I love them because they are campy and fabulous. I can't wait for the next one because David Slade's directing it and he's the cat's pyjamas. I am firmly in Team-Jacob-Werewolf camp. Sir, Yes, Sir!

Daphne & Zandra! It sounds like a wonderful television show and one that I would most definitely watch. I should be allowed to name tv. shows. Cougar Town?! Really?! I'm pretty sure anyone could come up with a name better than that.

I found this book while I was pottering around Waterstone's The Bookstore in Cardiff. Cardiff is the capital of Wales and near to where my Mum lives. I once worked in Cardiff for 6 months at a mortgage company. It was whore-rific. But Cardiff is GORGE and in the last two years has become full of the most insane shops. Anyway - Penguin have released a selection of classic novels from the seventies and Zandra Rhodes has designed the covers for them...B-A-N-A-N-A-S. I would have bought them all but I was worried about my luggage limit. Curses.

My obsession with the photography of Deborah Turbeville is no secret here. I think this is at least my third post about her, and that's because I've been exercising restraint. I could post about her ALL day long (but that might get a little boring for the rest of you). This book just came out and it's wondrously dark and brooding. I love the image above - it's from a dummy shop in NYC, 1974. They look limbless but alive and as though they might jump up at any moment, chase me and tickle me to death. I hate being tickled.

It's no secret I love magazine covers. Old and new. I worry that with the dawn of the new media age, print magazines will become obsolete and disappear, taking with them the art of the cover. But then perhaps it will instead weed out the market and just make magazine editors raise their game. I think I may sound like an anachronistic dinosaur. If I was a dinosaur I would be a pterodactyl so I could fly and screech with impunity.

This book has so many great covers - these above are my favourites. The French really know how to do it.

Sharlene tells me I am to live in the present and not the past but I can reminisce right? I'm desperate to get my hands on a copy of The Gentlewoman which I think could be a good substitute but I can't find hide nor hair of one. They re-launched Nova in the UK back in the nineties - I remember it was pretty good but I may have been the only one because it folded pretty quick and that was before we all got our fashion fixes online. I've been reading about super novas lately. They are a bit mind-boggling.

There is a man outside the store trying to fly a paper bag like a kite, while being filmed. It's not very windy in LA today so I wonder how it's going to turn out. I just heard Malcolm Mclaren died. He was a frequent customer of the restaurant I worked at when I first arrived here. He was terrifying, a little bit cruel and always surrounded by attractive Japanese people. I often wanted to ask him about Vivienne (obsessed I am), but I never plucked up the courage. I read he was suffering from horrid cancer, so I hope he's in a happier place now. Cancer blows.

Today I bought a Bonjour Tristesse t-shirt dress online. I am very happy because my bff has the above tank top and I covet it repeatedly. Le Corbusier designed 2 houses in Paris for the Jaoul family in the fifties but scholars and people who like him tend to gloss over these lovely houses. Princeton Architectural Press put out this book last year to try and rectify the situation. It has amazing photos covering all sorts; the houses, the plans, book covers L.C. designed at the time, pictures of himself and others...oh, just all sorts. Well worth a looksee.

Paper Magazine publishes lists of cool people every year or every other year or something. Anyway, this year Autumn de Wilde and her bff Shirley Kurata are on this list. You can read about them here. I like Autumn de Wilde's photos a lot and I especially like that Kurata is wearing a vintage Geoffrey Beene dress in this photo. I HEART GEOFFREY BEENE. I also like that they have movie nights with Elijah Wood. As anyone who knows me knows, I have a predilection for little men that look like hobbits.

I think I meant to re-order the Tate book on Richard Long, but instead I ordered this one on artist Robert Longo. I'm not dyslexic, I'm just stoops. I don't know anything about this Robert Longo or his work and it could have been an unfortunate incident. Luckily his work is fab if a little dark. There was one painting of an atomic mushroom cloud explosion that was stunning but I didn't fancy posting it. I am scared of nuclear holocaust. I expect this is a fairly common fear.

This is a pop-up book though, so I couldn't flatten it out without breaking it, which is sort of against the law in here. But it's a POP-UP book. I LIKE A LOT the pop-up. This one is gorgeous. It's about bad luck but the subject matter is almost besides the point. I am quite unlucky, but perhaps it might be clumsiness instead of bad luck. I wish I could draw wallpaper like this. It's wonderful and my shaky pictures do it no justice. The picture of the coat, is an actual coat -affixed in the book, with little buttons sewn on it. The attention to detail is phenomenal! Superb! You can also see my fingernails in some of them. My nail polish is called Orange Fizz. My brother gave it to me for Christmas. I like this a lot too.

Lawrence King makes the best fashion books. The photos are always so brill. I love jewelry, but sadly, I'm not brilliant at wearing it because I have a weird skin reaction to any metal that isn't platinum. My skin has very expensive tastes. If I wear any other metal compound for a period of time, my skin starts to blister and it looks like I'm suffering from some hideous 18th century malady. Looking at these photos makes me want to throw caution to the wind and bedeck myself in numerous trinkets and baubles. The photos also make me miss my friend Kelly - she makes the most insanely beautiful jewelry and she moved to London at the beginning of the year. The jezebel.

My car has died. It is in the shop until further notice because my tranny transmission broke. I have been walking to work and I consequently have blisters. Oh woe is me. On the upside, yesterday I learnt about a drink called a Pickleback. This consists of cheap bourbon with dill pickle brine. OH HAPPY DAY. Considering my love of frickles, pickles and all things gherkin related, this is indeed a joyous discovery.

This has nothing to do with my images, because I explained where they came from in the post below. The Iris Murdoch cover is deliciously terrifying.

So excited about my growing collection of Gentry magazines. They are a constant source of wonder and hilarity. This one has a guide to "cooling beverages, and food that can be cooked out of doors in the warm, lazy days of summer ahead". My favourite is the Romanoff Rouser which is described as "not only good before, during and after meals but is also a very handy hangover remedy". It's basically a Bloody Mary but I prefer Romanoff Rouser. Other articles include: Delauney: Pioneer in Abstract Art; Summer on Horseback and The Formal Raincoat.

I have been planning my new window display this weekend - I think I'm going to do a meadow. Here's the current one, it's still undergoing additions and tweaks. It's much calmer than most of my windows, so it makes a nice change. I wasn't aware of it but I think I was inspired by the sculptures of Ruth Asawa. This is something that Sharlene pointed out to me a couple of days ago. Sharp as a whip that one.

I got a bad review on Yelp today. Yelp is the devil's spawn. I looked at the rest of my reviewer's reviews and they were mostly angry. He yelped our local Sear's so I am obviously in marvellous company. He called my hair dishwater blonde which is a bit rude because anyone can see it's a strawberry hue. Ha. He said I never say hello and am prejudiced against bicycles - which are clearly fibs because I say hello to everyone and often cycle to work myself. Blurgh. I responded and defended myself which I don't think is the point of YELP but I had to defend my family honour. Harold would be proud.

You can't tell but this front cover WOBBLES when you touch it! It should do something amazing because it's $100. I didn't quite know it would be this much when I ordered it. I get them from IDEA BOOKS which are based in the Netherlands so the catalogues are in EUROS which make no sense to me because I am slow-witted. Books on Comme des Garcons and Rei Kawakubo are pretty hard to find though - so I think they will sell like hot cakes.

Both the works above are by Agnes Martin. I love the name Agnes. Not because of Aggie Deyn, but because I think it's a lovely looking word. I like the A next to the g and the nes. If I ever have a small girl I would consider Agnes - Agnes Spriggs - that's a good name. Although I have said in the past that if I did birth a girl I would try and give it back. I know little boys can smell funny but big boys seem like they would cause less worry than big girls. I know I was a horror and single-handedly sent my mother grey.
